Water Damage Restoration

Water damage comes in many forms from bursting pipes, to roof leaks, to sewage back-ups, and more. Seminole Carpet Cleaning has you covered with our 24-7 emergency service. We understand that these are stressful times and our technicians will arrive quickly, help minimize the immediate damage water can cause, and develop a specific plan based on your scenario to get your home and life back to normal as soon as possible.

Here at Seminole Carpet Cleaning we are certified by the IICRC in water damage restoration and NORMI certified in mold remediation and assessment. The IICRC has set the standard for structural drying and this is the standard we follow. We will use the science of psychrometry to create a balanced drying environment that will effectively restore a wet structure. This involves 4 factors: airflow, temperature, humidity, and time. You can count on us to return your home to normal as quickly as possible.

People, including many companies who claim to be water damage specialists, tend to overlook the migration of water into structural components other than the carpets. Water will always take the path of least resistance. This means that water, given the right circumstances, will travel through walls and into adjacent rooms. Water will also tend to wick up drywall the same way a paper towel can absorb water upwards when saturated. At Seminole Carpet Cleaning we make sure to check all areas that could be affected including walls, furniture, beneath linoleum and tile floors, etc. Pockets of trapped water can lead to fungal growth if not dried properly and quickly.

This is what you can expect when we enter your home for water damage restoration**:

  1. Moisture detection – We will use our specialized moisture detection equipment to determine the extent of water loss. We will not only test the room where there is apparent damage, but also all the adjacent rooms as well. We do this to eliminate any guessing of where water might be.
  2. Extraction – We will check to make sure any furniture that can bleed (stained wood) or rust is blocked to prevent immediate damage. Carpet and cushioning can hold large amounts of water. The first goal is to remove as much of this water as possible since water is most easily removed in its liquid state. Also, by removing water away from walls we can limit the amount that the wall absorbs. We will use a wand to remove water away from the walls. Then we will use a subsurface water extractor to pull water out of your flooring. Water will be removed from hard surfaces using a hard surface water extractor. We will also determine if there is a need for an anti-microbial to inhibit any fungal growth.
  3. Evaporation and Dehumidification – Once the excess water is removed, we must concentrate on changing water from a liquid to vapor form using evaporation. By using air movers positioned at certain points, we can maximize evaporation. We also must focus on removing the evaporated water from the structure through either a natural or mechanical drying system. Given the right internal and external circumstances, we can use the outside environment to help expedite the drying process. If not we must use a mechanical, or closed drying system through the use of dehumidifiers. It is important that the rate of dehumidification is greater than the rate of evaporation. If not then the humidity of the indoor environment can increase causing damage to structural components and porous materials. Using specialized equipment and running through several formulas we can determine the correct amount of equipment to promote the most efficient drying environment for you.
  4. Daily checks – After the drying environment is set you can expect to see us daily until your structure has been successfully restored. We will keep accurate logs to track your progress and will show and explain these logs, along with any other questions you might have, at your request.

**This is a typical scenario for a water loss that contains little or no contamination. All scenarios are different and a highly contaminated water loss is treated differently and will require additional steps. Please call 222-5326 for any questions.
